New Zealand banks ClearlyLedger converts

ClearlyLedger ships dedicated statement profiles for 5 New Zealand banks. Each profile expects the layout that bank actually prints, rather than treating every PDF as a generic table.

Statement conventions in New Zealand

New Zealand statements in our profile set use DD/MM/YYYY, DD MMM, DD MMM YYYY date ordering and are denominated in NZ$ NZD. Date ordering is the single most common source of silent conversion errors — a DD/MM/YYYY statement read as US ordering produces plausible-looking but wrong dates for every day below the thirteenth of the month, which is why the New Zealand profiles pin the order rather than inferring it per row.

Layout quirks these profiles handle

  • New Zealand's largest bank by assets, formed when ANZ acquired the National Bank of New Zealand from Lloyds TSB in 2003 and merged the two networks over the following years
  • Consistently ranks as New Zealand's single largest bank by both total assets and customer numbers among the four major Australian-owned banks operating there
  • Single Amount column with negatives for debits — no separate debit/credit columns
  • Paymark and eftpos transactions show a merchant terminal ID rather than a plain merchant name
  • Automatic Payments are identified by an 'AP' prefix in the Details field rather than a dedicated transaction-type column
  • Bank charges are grouped at period end with no individual row dates, unlike ordinary transactions

Importing into New Zealand accounting tools

Export to CSV and import into Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks or another bookkeeping system — the tools New Zealand bookkeepers most often run. Amounts and dates are normalised on export so the column mapping in the import wizard resolves without hand-editing.

Conversions are processed in memory, are never used to train AI models, and the workflow is built to align with New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 for New Zealand account holders.
