ClearlyLedger converts Spanish extracto bancario PDFs from Santander, BBVA, CaixaBank, Sabadell, Bankinter and Kutxabank into Excel or CSV. It handles EUR formatting, Spanish decimal commas, Bizum, tarjeta, transferencia, Cargo/Abono columns and balance verification.

Spanish statements print Fecha operacion and Fecha valor as separate dates and use Cargo (debit) and Abono (credit) — or, on some templates, a single signed Importe column that needs splitting into debit and credit fields. Spanish decimal commas and period thousands separators need normalizing before the amounts will work correctly in spreadsheet formulas.
Bizum, tarjeta (card) and transferencia references often include long merchant or counterparty text that wraps onto a second line, which a generic parser can split away from the amount it belongs to. Account-summary and fee sections at the top or bottom of the statement need excluding from the transaction table rather than counted as rows.
Spanish banking is dominated by a handful of large groups with distinct histories. Santander was founded in 1857 in the port city that gives the bank its name, and is now one of the eurozone's largest banks by market value. BBVA took its current form in 1999 when Banco Bilbao Vizcaya merged with Argentaria, the group formed from Spain's privatised state-owned banks. CaixaBank traces to "la Caixa," a Barcelona savings bank founded in 1904, and became Spain's largest bank by domestic assets after absorbing Bankia in 2021. Banco Sabadell, founded in 1881 in the Catalan textile town of the same name, was the target of a high-profile hostile takeover bid from BBVA launched in 2024. These mergers mean statement templates and branding can carry legacy conventions from an absorbed predecessor bank even years later.
Use Excel when reviewing figures for a gestoría, annual accounts, or preparing Modelo 303 — the quarterly Spanish VAT return most autónomos file; use CSV for import into accounting software such as Holded or Sage Spain. ClearlyLedger's balance verification checks extracted rows against the printed saldo before export, catching a missing row before it reaches bookkeeping.
